On June 15, 1937 one of country music’s greats was born. There’s not a lot of country artists that will make the pages of Defunkd, but Waylon was one of the genres pioneering “outlaws.” Jennings secured his own recording rights and rebelled against the “Nashville sound” which had become soft – straying from its raw honky-tonk roots. Cash, Nelson and Hank Williams Jr. were also part of this movement. Of course, WJ is best known by our generation for his work with the outlaws of Hazzard County – he created the theme song and narrated The Dukes of Hazzard. “Looks like those Duke boys are at it again…”
