A while back we teamed up weforest.org for a tree planting initiative. Every t-shirt that was sold through Defunkd was backed by the planting of one tree by weforest. Vintage tees are green symbols as is – scoring points in the Reuse department. So we enhanced their green appeal by making the buyers and sellers involved in a Defunkd transaction “Tee Planters.” We’re happy to report that during this partnership 2000 tees were sold and a small forest was planted! Happy birthday to us! The marketplace portion of Defunkd was launched a year ago today! Man, time flies when you’re squashing bugs in a new platform. Thanks to all the beta sellers and buyers for their participation, patience and feedback. It really has been a collective effort. We’ve come a long way in a year, a thousand new users, thousands of tees listed, hundreds of sales. We saw our traffic cut in half shortly after launch, but has since been fully restored. Our pals over at The Captain’s Vintage are expanding their fleet with a line of Captain branded tees. They just launched a crowd-sourcing campaign on Kickstarter which offers tiered rewards for donations of 5 or more bucks. The video attached to the campaign is awesomelarious (awesome and hilarious.) It got an early nod from the Academy for best retro: visual effects, sound and editing. There’s also a Commodore 64 cameo, the exact same model we have at our vintage HQ.
