Swing and a Miss

Living legend Ronnie “Woo Woo” Wickers During the 2001 Major League Baseball season, I worked as an usher at Wrigley Field making $4.50 and hour which was the minimum wage back then. It took me more than an hour to get to the stadium on public transportation from my home in the suburbs. I’d listen to a Phish CD on a Discman with anti-skip technology while being bumped into by all the fans heading to the game. The most appealing part of the job was that I’d get to watch my favorite team all season while being paid to do ... Read more

For a Good Time Text Jenny: 867-5309

We haven’t covered one of these in a while, but check out this strange and unusual auction for a telephone number made famous by Tommy Tutone. When “Jenny” was released in 1987 her number instantly became the top target of crank callers. According to the eBay listing and snopes.com the phone companies throughout North America have been grandfathering the number and now very few remain. Sadly, it appears as though Jenny’s days on the telephone are numbered.

Ken is Definitely No Doll

This week’s strange and unusual eBay auction comes from a very creative and witty eBayer who goes by iloveseverus. So witty in fact, that I don’t even have to do the usual break down of how absurd the listing is, this one speaks for itself. What does this have to do with vintage clothing? Not a heck of a lot. Well, that dress Ken’s wearing isn’t exactly modern day, but I have already said to much. Let’s face it, Ken’s been riding on Barbie’s coattails since their first mold was made. Some might even say he’s Barbie’s bitch, but that’s ... Read more

A Vintage Church Outhouse? Holy Shit!

This week’s strange and unusual eBay auction comes from an entrepreneurial eBayer who goes by twiceconnected. But for the sake of this post, chalked full of toilet humor, let’s just call him John. His story begins while a church is being remodeled and the pastor decides it’s time to lay the old outhouse to rest. That’s when John uses his head and decides not to let this old dump to go to waste. He strikes a deal with the devotee, snaps a few pictures, and starts the bidding at $9.99. Hey, that’s the opposite of 666, nice one John! And this isn’t any ... Read more

Video Killed the eBay Star

This week’s strange and unusual eBay item comes from the operator of a women’s vintage clothing store called MSFIRECRACKER’S VOGUE COLLECTION. For a mere $100,000 you can purchase a large quantity of her pin up clothes, dresses, coats and shoes. The listing is pretty scarce on details given the hefty price tag. One of my rules of thumb – if I’m going to drop $100,000 I’d like to see a photo…or two. What could she be thinking? The subtitle of the auction, “~BABY, I’M A STAR!~” provides a little insight and paves the way to the even bigger oddity. Apparently MSFIRECRACKER ... Read more
