michael jackson history tour tee all sport tag

Post by noglyph »

I recently bought this shirt on GRAILED and I’m just wondering if it’s legit or not.
Looking at the catalogs of the time, the printing itself seems to be correct, but the print definition is questionable.
Both hem and sleeves are single stitched.

Experts, please give me your opinions.

It seems ok to me. Let's make sure the size checks out, what's the pit to pit in inches?

Thank you. I felt a little relieved..
The pit to pit will be 21.65".
(I'm Japanese, so I am not used to using inches.
Is this correct? If I convert it to centimeters, it is 55cm)

Size checks out, here's a similar:

Tags match perfectly.

I think because you're comparing it to an image in a catalog - those aren't actually images of the print on t-shirts, they probably use the original graphic image and that will look way more vibrant when compared to a print on cotton that's 30 years old.

Thanks for the link.
It's true. It looks like the body is definitely allsports.

I was checking the catalog but only to make sure the design was correct. (Because there were a few with different back prints.)

As for why I doubted the prints.
Compared to the designs on the other bodies that we have confirmed (photos only), I had the impression that the socks and other parts of the design lacked definition, so I suspected a reprint. Please see below.

What do you think?
I'm not sure which is chronologically earlier than allsports...

Ahh yes, definitely agree there are different definition in terms of the diamonds in his socks, from tag to tag (I found Cronies and even a MJ History tag) BUT here's two images from this print on allsport vs lee, I found in eBay archives, one from 2018 one from 2021.

So, the inconsistency in the print is consistent on each tag.

So think it's legit, but would also say the Lee print....is better quality in making his socks pop.

I see, well, thank you very much.
I understand very well.

It seems to me that the body and print match perfectly, and that Lee's printing is more precise.

So is it still more likely that the allsports one is later than the timing of the Tour Merchandise release? (I have a feeling that the allsport body is chronologically correct...)

Is it common for different bodies to be sold at the same time?
Is this really something that can be called authentic...?
Sorry for all the questions.

Absolutely authentic.

Often, tour t-shirt prints are done at different times by different screen printers in different countries, and the quality can vary. Here's one with an MJ tag. And it looks more like yours than the LEE version. It would be hard to figure out which came first, would take a some time to research.
