When did the Era of printed Neck labels Start?
Hi there! I'm relatively new to collecting vintage tees. When did printed labels (in the neck of the shirt) instead of tags become common?
Re: When did the Era of printed Neck labels Start?
Great Q and we're currently working on a full post about it...because I recently saw an IG t-shirt guy claim that they started in 2008, and that "it's not vintage" if you have a printed tag. It actually started in the 70s (maybe earlier,) though not mainstream like in the mid to late 2000s. As a general rule you could say the vast majority of them haven't yet reached "vintage" yet, but like most general rules, like the single-stitch claims, there are a lot of exceptions that make it pretty unreliable.
We're actually waiting to hear back from a second t-shirt maker that had branding in the inside collar.
