Was told it was from California in 1979 and is authentic and had been kept in good condition

Totally legit, but not from 1979, as that tag didn't exist then.

I did a quick search through our Hanes tags, and found a few early 80s, but none that matched your tag perfectly.

Anywho, it's just one of these tees that featured an image that was copywritten in 1979, and was printed years later.

Still very cool though.
