70s or 80s?

Post by Corey »

Hey everyone,

I am about to list this really cool paper thin San Francisco Tee. I cannot figure out the date though. The tag is the unbranded 50/50 (reverse side just states the RN# and Made in U.S.A.;I think it is possibly 70s or earlier. Anybody have a guess? The birds on the shirt make it look like a vintage knockoff from that one mall brand.

nice graphic! and show us RN number that tee has. each RN number represents a company you know.
and in my opinion, 50/50 tees are from 80's.

Thanks!

RN 17251 (that 5 could be a 3, but looks like a 5).
Is there a RN directory somewhere?

yeah here http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/rn/index.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; you can search with RN number. i dont know what federal trade commision, i think you know better than me. im silly japanese.

and it turned out that number(17251) indicates HANES!!!!!!! and with 17231 i got Little coleman co. i bet former one is correct. congrats man!! but that just tells current company. i mean if the brand that produced your tee 30 or 40 years ago are today possessed by the other company, that number doesnt give a clue to reveal original companies.

say....the other day, i searched with champion's RN number and they say it is HANES.
i dont know the details but Champion is a part of Hanes company now isnt it?

and i got to know this way, searching RN number at one vintage blog. and ive been thinking that i should share with you here.

poor english. sorry about that.

Thanks for all the information. I will check out that link. I thought Hanes and Champion were always two different companies, but maybe I am wrong. I am sure one of the other vintage sellers on this site could verify if they ever merged or not.

Corey it's early to mid 70's for sure.

The tag, patina and graphic all indicate circa 74'-78'.

What are the measurements? Have you listed it yet? If the measurements are a good fit I'd be interested.

Thanks! I listed it several days ago. I think my opener is low, but really cool and unique vintage tourist tees do not translate well on eBay. Here is the link:

By the way, I wasn't 100% sure it was 70s, even though that was my original belief. So, I listed it 80s.

What an awesome tee Corey! Unfortunately it's too small for me.

Good luck with the auction!
