Re: Newyork dolls vintage shirt
A good starting point - who did you purchase it from? What is their eBay ID?

Re: New York dolls vintage shirt
The seller's eBay ID is parinya1984 in Bangkok, Thailand.
I studied the photos of this auction for the entire week it was listed. The more I looked at it the more I became convinced that it is a fake.
Here's the original listing http://www.ebay.com/itm/290773245825?ss ... 1438.l2649
You can tell by looking at the "e" in the word "New". See how there's a portion of the "e" script font at the bottom missing? That's because the printer didn't have a clean scan of the artwork. Consequently a flawed screen to print from.
And if you look carefully at the close-ups, the patina of the screen print doesn't look right. It's not a solvent based ink saturating the garment but rather a thin, water-based ink which wasn't even in existence in the late 70's for t-shirt screen printing.

Nice.
I noticed that 'e' issue.
That seller used to be known as supradosuprado - vanished for a bit then changed their ID for some reason.
The measurements are also pretty damn big for a vintage t-shirt from the 1970s - 20.5 X 27.
What year would that design be from?

Re: New York dolls vintage shirt
Ya for sure Jimmy. Typically a tee from the 70's would be like 18" x 28". Very thin and long. Or just completely tiny like 16" x 21"
The design is definitely 1973-74. I've seen the genuine t-shirt in book somewhere I just can't remember what book it was. The original is valued at over $1,000.00
I feel kinda' bad for @rockingdrink. He paid $172.49 for it. A cool tee but I just don't think it's the real thing.

Re: New York dolls vintage shirt
thank u for your answer.I see 'newyork dolls' repro t-shirt from other 2 webside. asos.com/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=1647714&r=1&mk=na , surachaibundle.blogspot.com after I bid on ebay. it has copyright 2008 on the t-shirt.and I think the seller(parinya1984)erase the copy right and make it for old shirt.do u think so?
Re: New York dolls vintage shirt
Here it is.
The exact reproduction t-shirt made by Junk Food, auctioned off by eBay seller parinya1984 claiming it's an original from the 70's. The tee in the auction photos has just been dirtied up a bit with the tag torn out.

It's easy to make a repro look real in eBay photos. Wear it for a week straight in humid 90° heat. Tear out any tags. Then throw it in the dirt. Step on it a few times. Take sand paper and rough up a few spots. Spill soda on it in a few places. Then quickly rinse it off with the garden house and hang to dry. Bam! I fake that even a trained eye has to study carefully.

Classic. Suprado seemed to be on the up and up. He bought tons of genuine merch from Stormcrow and Wyco. So maybe this is a case of him getting burned by dodgy eBay seller and not knowing any better.

Re: New York dolls vintage shirt
Someone at some point was attempting to fool their buyers. Upon closer inspection of the suspect tee, you can see where the copy right date and info was rubbed off along the backside of the cowgirls left boot.
Original reproduction t-shirt printed by Junk Food Clothing Company with copyright:
2006 One Day it Will Please Us, Inc.
Suspect t-shirt with copyright removed
Poor sellers...they can't get anything past Defunkd forum members
*Interesting side note: "One Day it Will Please Us" was the New York Dolls third full length studio album released in 2006.

Re: New York dolls vintage shirt
I think when all is said and done the seller in Thailand honestly thought it was the real thing.
