Vintage? 1966 Mustang Cap

Post by studiolano »

Hi all and I hope you are doing well :)

This cap is a bit of a mystery to me. There is no doubt it is old but it seems in too good of shape to be from 1966. The foam is flawless with no dry rotting and it folds perfectly.
Take a look at some photos and tell me what you think.

A darn good question - when did trucker hats first appear? Something tells me not in the 60s....so it's gotta be a throwback image from the mid 70s or 80s. Probably 80s because usually takes about a decade for people to start getting nostalgic.

Thanks for your reply, jimmyj.

I had that same thought but then when I thought about it some more, I realized that it is a dealership hat and why would they be pimping a 1966 Mustang in the 70s or 80s? Or better yet, why would someone make a throwback hat with a dealership name on it? Wouldn't they make the hat with just the Mustang on it?

Oh well, I guess I'll let the general public decide and put it up for auction at some point.
Thanks again, sir :)

I just looked them up - Sunset Ford is now "defunct" having closed in 2010 after 40 years of service. So the company was born in 1970.

They dealt in used cars - so showcasing classics on promo material makes sense.

Apparently not very well loved either - horrible reviews online!
