Hello,
I was trying to do some research on old concert shirts and this site came up in a search. It's a real wealth of information and I've spent a few hours just exploring and reading.
My situation is that I am an avid concert goer with a tendency to hold onto things. I came across a box of various concert t-shirts I'd bought (mostly in the late 70's/early 80's) and since I'd seen a few random crazy prices on eBay listings, decided to see what they might be worth.
Imagine my surprise when I saw this listing:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/KISS-VINTAGE-19 ... 0914122522
I have that exact shirt on the desk here beside me. I took a few photos of mine, but every version I've saved has returned an error when I tried to upload it here. (file size, then pixel size, then file extensions...So, I can try again another time if needed.)
Mine is very similar in condition, I'd say the back printing might be slightly more faded than the listed one. No tears, no rips or damage.
So, is that a realistic price?...765 dollars?....(I know people sometimes ask silly prices, but everything else I found was all over the map-pricewise.)
If it is realistic, well I guess I'll be listing it, and maybe the rest too.
I'd guess that I have another 15-20 shirts...(Four Springsteens, Cheap Trick, Foghat, Foreigner, Two Al Stewarts, ELO - "The Big Night", Four Tom Pettys including one that says "Lawsuit Tour 1979"....and even a Queen "Jazz" tour sweatshirt in bright yellow...)
There are some great memories there, but I realized that they are just sitting in a box...so, it may be time to let go of them and just hold on to the memories. I can photograph them and post more later, but I didn't want to overwhelm with requests on my first post. Thank you for any advice and input that you are willing to offer.
Cheers,
JT

Re: Just discovered your site, asking for some advice.
Hi jt. Welcome! Nice little collection! $700+ seems inflated to me. There's lots of super high prices on ebay that sit around for years. Use the best offer option to suss out what people would be willing to pay. I would also get them up quickly as the next two weeks is the best time of the year.

Re: Just discovered your site, asking for some advice.
Hi Jimmy,
Thank you very much for the fast response!
As far as the photos, it was really just very late last night and I was trying to avoid reopening Aperture to resize and re-save them.
Here's a couple in case anyone is interested in seeing them.
I really appreciate the advice, I'm going to try and take some better photos of all the shirts and list them in the next few days. Would you like me to post over in your auction thread once I do, in case anyone here has an interest?
(I'd also be glad to work out some sort of deal if anyone here has an interest in any of them. I've never sold on e-Bay or Etsy before, so it's all new ground for me to figure out.)
Thanks again and happy holidays!

Nice! Ya man post links, always like to see how things play out. Remember to put the words Vintage T-Shirt in every listing. Some of them might be best at fixed prices - the kiss one you can auction for sure right now, good time.

Word to the wise- if you don't know an item's value, do find out how much it's worth before making a deal. Also, never start an auction at a price lower than what you'd be willing to get for it. Good luck!
Have vintage Elvis tees? Let me know!

Thank you both very much!
I ended up with a crazy amount of work all week, but I was finally able to photograph and list the first three tonight. It's slow going when you've never done it before, but I think I have it down now and should be able to get the rest up (I photographed 15 shirts already and have about 10 more to take pics of.)
This is the link to the Kiss Shirt:

I also did a Foghat and an ELO...I won't do those links, since you can find them off that listing. I tried to base it off reasonable guesses based on what I'd seen by searching old listings of them, and of course looking at what actually sold. There were no comparable ELO at all from that tour, so it was an inexact science....but, as CrazyBubba said, I made them prices that I could live with letting them go for...heck, they have been hidden in a box for over 30 years, so I'll be thrilled to sell any of them.
Thank you again!
It's very kind of you to run this site and help someone who is a real novice out with great advice.
Happy Holidays!
