anthrax state of euphoria

Post by kaplabesi »

lately I've found a vintage ANTHRAX 'State Of Euphoria' shirt..
the seller said that it was an original shirt.
but I doubt it because the background of the album cover on the shirt does not have the yellow colour like the other vintage anthrax SOE shirt.besides that the ANTHRAX font colour is yellow instead of blue..
I've attached you with the pic of the shirt..

and btw the shirt's material is 50/50,the tag is BLOOPERS...
any suggestion or comment??

the t-shirt is definitely vintage...but i'm not anthrax expert...here's another one from silverruins..who always has proper goods:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ANTHRAX-Vintage-SHI ... 35a68e62b0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

but who's to say there weren't variations of prints...the anthrax logo on that one is blue.

anyone?

Looks to be true vintage, but more than likely a parking lot bootleg.

By the late 80's most of the big metal bands were hip to licensing their merchandise. If it has a copyright date of 1988 or 1989 in small print along the bottom of the front graphic than it was licensed by the band for their "Road to Euphoria" tour and is a good indicator that it's the real deal. But even that isn't always a way to tell if a shirt is legit or not because modern day forgeries can include copyright dates. However, back in the day (and I believe your tee to be from "back-in-the-day") the printers making parking lot bootlegs weren't concerned with accuracy and usually didn't worry about adding copyright dates. You have to remember that bootlegs were sold after the show, in the dark and we were all drunk as hell. We knew the guy in the parking lot was selling us a bootleg but we didn't care. Hell it was $10 for a concert tee as oppose to the $25 they charged at the merchandise booth inside the concert.

The uncommon manufacturer name of "Bloopers" on the size tag is another indicator that it's a parking lot bootleg.

The variation in color placement you're seeing also suggests it's a bootleg. Screen printing shops would crank out hundreds of these bootleg concert t-shirts the day of the show so as to not have boxes of forged inventory laying around their shop. Copyright infringement is a fairly serious crime. Since they would rush these print jobs in the span of less than 24 hours many times the printers would sacrifice accuracy and color placement to get the job done as quickly as possible. Or sometimes it was something as simply as the person who did the color separation to create the printing screens didn't know how to do their job very well, consequently you end up with a t-shirt like yours, that isn't quite accurate when compared to the original artwork.

Still a nice piece from 88-89! Just probably not officially licensed and merchandised by Anthrax.

Hope that helps.
