Generic 1970s Tag RN 13765

Brand #29: Generic

RN: 13765

Circulation: Common

Era: Mid 1970s to 1980?

Information: Before tags got all fancy with colors and logos in the 1980s, there was this unbranded tag. The RN number is tied to the Union Underwear Company which operates as a subsidiary of Fruit of the Loom. FOTL introduced Screen Stars in 1980 and it appears as though this tag was the precursor to Screen Stars. The timeline lends to this idea given this tag faded out in the early 1980 and that’s when the first Screen Stars tag was born (also bearing the same RN number.)

These tees featured both 100% cotton and 50/50 poly-cotton blends. The tag features a basic design, text with a box. There are a few slight design incarnations, one that features the size above the box, one that features it below. I believe the size above the box indicates an earlier 100% cotton version – size below is indicative of the poly cotton blend. But that’s based on a relatively small study, I’ll keep my eyes peeled.

    Pre 50/50 13765 generic tag! Perhaps late 60s – likely early 70s.

Perhaps the most rare version of 13765? A sticker tag!?

    Hello 🙂
Does anyone know anything about this tag and dating? The lovey seller I want to buy it from was kind enough to send me a pic of the tag, but I haven’t seen one like this before. Would it be from the 70’s? Any help appreciated. 🙂 Thank you!

Me again. I stumbled on some blanks with these stickers. I which I knew the story behind them and when/how/why they were used. A couple of them appeared to have the original generic tag, but it was cut off and replaced by the sticker.

Sorry for the late reply – yes, could very well be from the 70s.
