Defunkd’s exclusive collection of vintage t-shirts for sale at reasonably exorbitant prices.
Item #3: Soft Cell T-Shirt
Record: Memorabilia 12″
Track: Memorabilia
Year: 1981
Circulation: Uber rare Soft Cell Memorabilia.
Despite being a nightclub anthem Soft Cell’s Memorabilia 12″ release was a commercial flop. Phonogram Records opted to give the band a final chance to score a hit with a second single. The synth-duo decided to re-work an obscure track titled Tainted Love released by Gloria Jones in 1964. Jones would later become known as a member of T-Rex, Marc Bolan’s girlfriend and the driver during the car accident that cost Bolan his life. While she recovered in the hospital fans looted their possessions and she was left with nothing. Talk about tainted love.
Condition: This item is in good vintage condition.
Variables: Item has an off-white appearance with a few hardly noticeable blemishes, two of which are photographed above. The print on the t-shirt is off center, which may have been done purposely given the crooked image. However, since I have only ever seen one of these, I can’t be certain of this, it may be a print mishap. The Signal Mega-Tee has an unusually wider chest measurement in relation to its length so expect a looser fit on your torso.
