Circulation: One-hit-wonder

Era: 1980s

Information: Officially trademarked in 1986 this tag quickly caught on with the the music industry and then strangely vanished by the 1990s. Royal is the first of many one decade, one tag design, one-hit-wonders we’re going to feature. The trademark was once owned by Delta Apparel Inc, but those rights expired in 2007.

So if I found a “vintage” tshirt with the Royal tag, is it possible it is from 1987, 1988? I want to buy this tshirt but cant find any proof that Royal was a legitimate manufacturer of these tshirts. Thanks! Jody

For the record, yes, this quiz was tough. In the modern age of vintage tee counterfeiting, we can no longer just eye-ball items - it's not that easy. Counterfeit brands and bogus prints are getting better and better. Authentication now requires time, research, and especially making careful comparisons to known originals.
