Welcome to Fight Back Fridays, where our community will go to bat for other members who have been wronged while trying to purchase authentic vintage t-shirts on marketplaces. If a marketplace, or payment platform has screwed you around after being sold a fake t-shirt, let us know in our forum in the "Fight Back" section and our community will do its best. We don't have the time or energy to expose dishonest practices by individual sellers; there are too many. However, when a marketplace platform gives a customer the runaround, sides with a seller who is selling counterfeits, and then refuses to admit the product was fake, that's going to catch our attention. Our first case begins after a member of our community purchased a counterfeit vintage Nirvana t-shirt on @depop. After discovering it wasn't real, they had to jump through several hoops over several weeks, just to get a refund. They were denied a refund by the seller, who, somehow, managed to convince Depop that what they were selling wasn't counterfeit. We politely reached out to the seller (who has a sizable following on IG and Depop) to encourage them to settle the matter privately. Their Depop account is confusing because they have Thai counterfeits among their true vintage items. They responded by saying they are allowed to sell these on Depop and didn't explicitly state it was "vintage" (even though it was in the tags, and Depop ultimately acknowledged this), then quickly deleted the message and blocked us. Cool. For their part, Depop FINALLY issued a refund, but then continued to deny the shirt was fake. This was after being presented with proof via our forum, including direct links that outlined the tag in question was counterfeit. Please do better, @depop, and other platforms that facilitate the sale of counterfeit vintage t-shirts. (One platform in particular is regularly putting "Authenticated" badges on t-shirts that aren't authentic, any guesses on who that is?) Link to full Deflop saga in bio. Resources:
