We’ve been known to wax poetically over varsity jackets. They were the quintessential merch for the youth crew. Well, varsity jackets and the 1987 x-rated swatch. That goes without saying. But when have you ever seen us go on and on about hip hop gear of the same era? Probably never. It’s a shame, because hip hop was really beginning to blow open the NYC fashion scene and would influence the hardcore look shortly thereafter. From chains to boomboxes, kangol hats to shelltoes, hip hop had a fresh look. Entrepreneurs could see this and thus a niche was born. Enter Troop and their laser guided hip hop merch. Take this jacket from facesfindings. LL Cool J branded and approved. That’s fire, and you know it. I bet if Tre owned this, he could trade it for a DYS LP without breaking a sweat. Not sure what he could do with this Troop jacket though.
