Back when I was getting into Hardcore, Earth Crisis was hitting the scene at their hardest (fact, I was only 9 in 1988). Vegan straight edge was a huge deal. So were giant JNCOs, car seat style beaded necklaces, striped shirts from the gap, and even more questionable hair colors & styles. In fact, if you dig back through early 90s fashion, you’ll see all sorts of weird stuff. Like people with their t-shirts tucked into their giant pants. Why did people do this? I can see the preppy crossover (united colors of benetton, anyone?), but WHY? Seriously, why was that look cool? I missed it. I mean, I rocked some stupid large pants, but I never once tucked my tshirt into my pants. Thankfully, that look died out. And was replaced by girl jeans. Is that any better?!?<\/em> Thankfully, some items from the mid 90s still have that staying power.<\/p>\n

For instance, the Earth Crisis Animal Liberation hood. It fit the 90s style and still isn’t out of place in the scene today. A lot of start up bands could learn a lesson from the design principles behind this hood. For instance, 4 sided, 3 color print, BIG bold lettering. While I don’t suggest putting slaughterhouse pics on a hood, the pic fits the message.<\/p>\n
