Anthrax: Mega City One Hardcore.

I’m a big fan of rainbowgasoline‘s auctions right now, and I’ll tell you why. Despite being an eBay “vintage store” with a large amount of super high priced BIN’s, they also make sure to post a whole bunch of low priced auctions for general bidding. And it’s not crap either. Case in point:

I know some people prefer the Not Man, but to me Anthrax shirts were always at their best when they had Judge Dredd or Judge Death on them. Alas, the only ones that ever turn up are size smalls. This includes the I AM THE LAW shirt sitting in my “to eBay” pile at home. Speaking of the Not Man…

The real reason this shirt is a gem can be found amidst the bounty of “stickers” on the skateboard on the back…

Yes, this is one of the infamous Anthrax attempts at slapping NYHC on their merch. Definitely not their brightest idea, but at least it’s not as blatant as on this sticker being sold by cobwebtiques…

Definitely makes me believe the story about Minus smacking Scott Ian in the head with an orange at the Ritz. You’d have to think that it would have been far smarter to continue with the Judge Dredd angle and call themselves Mega City One Hardcore instead, but then again, who ever looked to Anthrax for intelligence?

Joe Hawk used to have that Anthrax sticker on his mini-van. I was always a little confused by this bands early use of NYHC and Skinhead imagery, since they were poodle haired metal heads with long ass goatee beards. That N.Y.HC sticker on the bottom of the skateboard is funny. They also had something that I saw a long time ago that said “NYCHC”. These dudes just didn’t get it…

I definitely had that sticker on my binder in middle school

I like Anthrax more than most NYHC.

Man, it’s been so long since I’ve seen that skate based shirt. I have it in high school and wore it proudly.

I saw them in 1989 open for Ozzy. I’ll remember that as the last ‘stadium’ show I even attended. Saw Bad Religion less than a year later and the idea that bands had to be miles away seemed like a bad joke.
