One time we drove to Infinitys (yes, that’s how it was spelled) in Springfield Mass. It was Cushman, AJ and myself. There may have been others in the car, I can’t recall. This was 1998 and for the time, the lineup was insane. Like big show that pulled kids from all over New England and probably NY too. Check this lineup.
Isis, Cable, Boy Sets Fire, Shadows Fall, Drowning Man, Turmoil, Grade, Coalesce and Converge
So yeah, huge. Not sure how this turned into some weird fest day, but it did. 9 bands in one day. And I don’t think it was booked as a fest. Just a regular “late 90s” show.
As you can guess, it was a LONG fucking day. Converge was headlining (is that true, or did we just leave early after Converge? hmmm) so you know nobody was leaving early. We waited and waited. Some more patient than others.
Turns out, Damian had broken down somewhere with all of the Converge equipment. No equipment + no drummer = (usually) no band playing. This wasn’t the case. Instead of blasting out tunes from Halo In A Haystack, Jake set up some sort of performance. It amounted to lots of loud feedback, random noise and lots of yelling & unintelligible spoken word. There was no moshing (obviously) just a lot of people standing around not sure what to do next.
This hat reminds me of that day.
This hat does NOT remind me of the time I heard Converge cover Judge.
