Casali told me this tee reminded him of a Newport (or some other cigarette) advertisement. I don’t see that. I see a nod towards INSTED!
Needless to say, this is the first Free Spirit tee. And you better snatch this up to claim your piece of history. If you don’t know, Free Spirit is quite possibly the best band in Boston right now (shouts to Have Heart, Mind Eraser, No Tolerance, …).

You know what design team knew a good looking shirt when they dreamt one up? Tim and Ed. Those two have loads of design smarts. They’ve taken their favorite elements of late 80s tee, added a mid 90s touch and then that special personal touch. That’s just a good look.
Red shirt with yellow print? Shut it down. I’ve never seen a shirt I didn’t like that came in the red and yellow colourway. Project X schism tee, check. Stop And Think tee, check. Smorgasbord tee, check. Floorpunch Smorgasbord rip off tee, check. I could go on, but I think you get what I’m saying.

This show was cool but cold as shit. Why was it so cold in the El N Gee for that gig? Also, it was my brother’s 19th bday. I celebrated with some stage diving for him. Everyone sound SOOO good that night. Did Desperate Measures play or did I dream that up?
Ironic tees are funny.
Think about Have Hearts Smoke With California tee. It had a giant pot leaf on it. That’s funny.
The Effort and Outrage take that next step. They add a funny slogan “drugs not hugs” and slap it on a TIE DYE tshirt. Nothing says, “I love patchouli” more than tie dye AND weed. Josh P would agree.

What about playing Pawtucket one night then Providence the next night? They probably walked their gear from one venue to the next. Good times! Lots of Thayer St hanging, I bet.
