SST – Seasons Beatings

Growing up in rural Maine during the late 80s and early 90s left very little opportunity for exposure to GREAT music. Sure, we got Casey Kasem and the rest of the top 40 shit, but I’m talking about GOOD music. We eventually had two outlets. Bull Moose and the Sessions Catalog. Not sure how we got hooked into the Sessions Catalog, but it may have literally been a gift from god (just like that old CCS catalog!). We would pour over it for days when it arrived. It was chalk full of gear from SST, Alternative Tentacles and plenty of skateboard/snowboard brands. My memory is pretty freaking foggy, but I believe this tee was featured in a holiday issue.

I’d guess this shirt was released during the Holiday ’92 season. That would be appropriate for the Rodney King and holiday references. Pretty satirical little tee here. Good look.

Mailbox report #1 Youth of Today Some Records shirt

OK, so here goes another feature that hopefully will be worth the read. If I get something cool in the mail, I will make a post about it with some info and pictures…

First up is a Youth of Today Some Records shirt. These babies were screened by Ray and his brother in their garage, and were sold at Some Records. Front print only, this baby has a slightly different fist style and all the quality of a home screened shirt. I doubt more than a few dozen of these were made, and this one came directly from Duane from Some records a few years back.

As the fist design is common, I would always advise you to purchase one of these from someone who has the history on it, and make sure it has the right shirt tag.

Classic Youth of Today style. This came to me as gift from the Luis Barrera estate.

Hatebreed – I Will Be Heard Tee

Hatebreed is awesome. Without a doubt AWESOME. Satisfaction Is The Death of Desire is probably the best LP that came out of CT in the whole 90s decade. Seriously, think about that (fuck, now I’m thinking about the first Fastbreak LP which is also awesome). Just good shit. Here are some other fun facts about Hatebreed:

  • The first time I ever saw Hatebreed was in March of 1997 in Portland, ME. Sick pitting for an out of state band.
  • One time I won a contest on the xMulletx board and got to do backups on a Hatebreed album
  • — Great crew: Kyle, Mullet, Jim C, Ivan, … shit, who am I forgetting?
  • — Kyle fell asleep in the loft above the booth while everyone was yelling.
  • — The band stayed at the recording studio house and the people there would make them ANYTHING they wanted to eat. The spread for us was ENORMOUS.
  • — We all had to sign documents and pay dues to enter the Back Up Vocal Union. No shit, I was working class for as long as those dues lasted.
  • — A few months after the event, we all got checks. How stoked were we?
  • — One of the songs we did backups on was featured in the Vin Diesel movie XXX during the snowboarding scene. HAWT!
  • Hatebreed recorded live video at the Palladium for use in a video. I always think I can see myself stage diving during it. They played the song live once. Then the played the recorded version 4 times in a row. OOOOOFFFFF (what was the date of that show??)
  • Jaime once told Mullet he was going straight edge. That lasted for a few months until Hatebreed went to tour Europe. Apparently Jaime really, REALLY hates flying.
  • Most importantly: Our Japanese Correspondent JBil is featured on this tee. Good look!

JBil side note** I remember when this shirt came out. it was a weekend and i was at home and i get a call from all around great dude Rich Perusi. so after the typical greetings and whats up he goes, “dude im at the mall and im staring at you.” “what the fuck are you talking about?!? im at home”.  He then went out to explain that he was at the mall in Boston and i was on this shirt on the wall of no where else but Hot Topic.  i was confused and stoked. hopped in my car and paid i think like 22 bucks for it :( shootouts to Rich P. true dogg.

new comp coming next week. fuuuuck its been a long time

One day Jay will get his computer back, and he’ll have more to say. Until that day, wear this shirt in his honor.
