Burn Longsleeve

Remember how you saved all that money this summer in order to buy books for when you go back to school? Fuck learning. Buy this incredible Burn longsleeve instead. I think it’s going to go for a good bit, so be prepared. You didn’t need that biology book anyway.**

Great seller too. I’ve bought a few shirts from bumpers4me over the years. Very professional, very timely. Fear not with this guy. Class act.

Simple Nike SB Tees

I know what you are thinking. “How the hell are Nike SB tshirts hardcore affiliated or even related?” Patience ,my dear friend. Much like Morgado’s earlier, super wacky connection, mine has a similar direction.

I’ve found over the last few years that bands have been making super ridiculous looking shirts. True story, and you know this, man. There is only so much ridiculousness I can wear, and my awesome shirts from the 80s and 90s … well, they are from the 80s and 90s. They are getting older and more delicate as the years go by. It’s all good, I don’t have them hermetically sealed and stored in a light sensitive, temperature and humidity controlled environment like some person I know (COUGH .. casali .. COUGH). I obviously still wear them, but every now and then, it’s nice to buy a NEW shirt.

Lately, that shirt of choice is the Nike SB dri-fit tee. These shirts are great. No stupid neon colors, no bizarre bullshit. Just plain logos or NO logo at all. Pocket or v-neck, I can hang. So I’ve picked up a few and they are great go to shirts. I’ve been able to pick up a few from local skate shops (SUPPORT local skate shops!) and a couple from ebay seller shoe_depot. I obviously prefer supporting my local skateshops, but lately, they’ve been selling out of these items with the quickness. Apparently, EVERYONE is enjoying them as much as I am. So I was forced to broaden my scope.

A few weeks back, I noticed a note on the Livewire Records message board from Eric Z of Refuge Skateboard Shop. He runs a great skateshop out in Michigan. Kids seem to love it, and from what I’ve read, so does the neighborhood. He posted about a sale he was running on Nike SB footwear. I jumped on it hoping he might have a few vegan sneaker options. Sadly, he did not. BUT, he did have some of the coveted shirts I was looking for. I hit him up right quick, sent some paypal his way, and then in a few short days, I had some new tees in house. It was awesome.

Here’s where it comes full circle back to hardcore. If you don’t know Eric Z (the Z is for Ziembowicz. Apparently Z is easier to pronounce than Ziembowicz. Who’d have guessed?), he is a hardcore kid like you and me. A diehard skateboarder and he’s run Element Records for nearly 15 years (or is it more? It could be more than that). I believe Element Records started out as a hardcore / skateboard zine. I know I have 2 or 3 issues somewhere in my house. He then started putting out EPs that had some skateboard connection. The Prevent This Tragedy comp is one of my favorites. Can’t go wrong with a Swarm track.

On top of the label, he’s also a small business owner struggling with the current economic situation. Here’s where you get into the mix. If you live in the area, support his shop. If you have an internet connection (duh), order gear from him. If you have a phone, call your order in. Support this dude. He’s been supporting hardcore for decades. It’s time to give back and support him. Go check it out.

One Shirt – Ned Russin

For this installment of the One Shirt series, we caught up with Ned Russin. You may recognize him from one of many acts: Title Fight, Stick Together, Back To Back records, … and likely, a shit ton more. Ned is a quality dude, and unlike the other gentlemen we’ve interviewed, he’s not an old man (just kidding dudes**, jeesh). For a young edgemin, he already has a bevvy of great tshirts, and an eye for quality tees. The next generation of hardcore dudes aren’t all girl jeans and neon tees (thank god!). Check what Ned has to say.

“I decided to not write about an old shirt that I wasn’t around for, but rather a shirt that defined my generation: the 2000’s era Wilkes-Barre hardcore kid. This shirt is important to me for a couple of reasons. Frostbite were the main powerhouse in WBHC when I first started going to shows with the release of their s/t 7” on Dead by 23 Records. They were just starting to tour and come out with their debut LP when they broke up in January of 2004. Frostbite had a whole slew of shirts, but this one is at the top of the list. The front pocket print is a nod to Floorpunch, even though Frostbite only had 1 remaining edgeman by the time the band had finished. The pocket print can also be seen on the “USA hardcore” shirt that FB did (which Title Fight also borrowed for the GAHC fest). The back drawing prevented me from wearing this shirt around the house when I was a young boy. A skin beating a chained up cop didn’t really fly in my house. Overall though, this shirt is a great reminder of WBHC’s past to me.”

Six Degrees Of Camoflauge Mesh Hats.

I’m sure smurphypurple is a really cool dude, but sorry bro, you’re no Dave Murphy.

What does Dave Murphy have to do with this Righteous Jams camo mesh hat? Nothing, directly. But if you want to get complicated, it’s like this…

Once upon a time, someone on the Mullet board said that when they think of Murphy’s Law shows, one of the things they think of is Dave Murphy trying to put everyone on his shoulders at the same time. What does that have to do with a camo WarZone hat? Jimmy G can be seen wearing a one on the back cover of Back With A Bong, that’s what. Now, stay with me here, Standhard and Joey C both owned WarZone hats; Jesse had the same style as the one Jimmy is wearing on Bong, and Joey C had one that had actually been owned by Raybeez (please see Sit Home And Rot fanzine issue 1 for the full story), the style of which was recently homaged by Naysayer. The RJ’s camo mesh hats, as you can see, were closer to Jesse and Jimmy’s than Joey and Ray’s.

SO Righteous Jams camo hat–> Joey C’s WarZone hat–> Standhard’s WarZone hat–> Jimmy G’s WarZone hat on the back cover of Back With A Bong–> Murphy’s Law–> Dave Murphy.

It’s a strange world, my brain.
