THIS IS HARDCORE: The Rival Mob.

A Rival Mob shirt from TIHC, on eBay already? I’m shocked and appalled at kilowatjacafonis1‘s gall, not to mention his NIN poster…

A lot of people have been complaining about the Mob’s merch selling out before day one openers Stick Together had finished their first song (a cover of Judge’s In My Way, which kicked off a killer set). And while it’s true the merch sold out in that quick duration, the fact is they really only had something like 150 shirts for sale to begin with (most of which were leftovers and none of which were new designs), not because they’re trying to make limited merch but because as a non-touring band, there’s no desire to have boxes of merch cluttering up their homes afterward (expect a TTD exclusive interview with them on the horrible hardcore controversy that is the resale price of Rival Mob shirts sometime soon).

As far as what really matters, it was a really excellent set from these guys (which you can see for yourself below. Be warned, the ugliness of the stage diving may shock you), including a sick YOT cover that to my ears sounded like it had been given a bit of rock flair to make it more in tune with the Mob’s own sound. COA was destroying people in that mosh pit. Many people were wanting to see who would say the more ridiculous things, Paul Bearer or Brendan, and while Brendan was his usually snappy self, he didn’t even come close. The new songs all got good reactions, but set closer Raw Life and it’s raw riffage as always got the biggest response.

Torn Apart

As Cushman and I were driving back from the Trapped Under Ice and Bane gig in CT, we were discussing old shirts and demos. I mentioned how I missed my ridiculous Turmoil soccer jersey, and he mentioned something about a Indian Summer? It was none of the above obviously, but he did mention that he had a box of demos. Now you are curious, “Brian, what was the first demo you asked him if he had?” The first one I asked about — Torn Apart. No shit. Torn Apart.

doooooobin has the tee. But who has the demo? I’ll take some MP3s people. Hook me up!

Tip: Selling In Lots

Lots are tricky business. They can either be a great way to unburden merch fast or a lazy man’s cheap out. If you are looking to unload a stack of tees, have a deadline to sell and can’t be bothered listing a ton of items, lots could be your best bet. But there’s a catch. Just because you list 14 tshirts, doesn’t mean you are going to get at least $140 in return. Oh hell no. Most kids are cheap. Fuck, I’m a cheap bastard, I know how this works. No kid is really interested in all 14 items (hardly ever) and doesn’t really want that chintzy Up Front tshirt in the pile (especially when quality originals are available). So most times, selling in lots barely ever benefits the seller. But buyers love them. It’s a great way to get a stack of tees for $50.

There is a way to make lots work out BETTER for you the seller, though. Take clear pictures. Just because you are lazy doesn’t mean you can get away with one picture of 45 shirts. That won’t cut it. It definitely won’t cut it at your bottom line either. So clear pictures are key. Also key? Descriptions of each shirt. You can’t expect a buyer to pick out there favorite shirt in a pile of 50 if you don’t call it out by name. Also, ebay doesn’t keyword search your image. No one will stumble on your Earth Crisis lot if you don’t specifically mention the keywords “Earth Crisis.” It’s as simple as that.

So lets rate the lots from bitterseth. How’d he do? I say he gets a solid 80 out of 100. His descriptions mention all the bands and describe the tees. His pictures aren’t terrible, but they aren’t stellar either. It’s really hard to gauge the condition of these tees from the pics. BUT, I’ll give him extra credit for this line, “Bid hard and pretend half of these bands didn’t deteriorate into total garbage.” You determine what bands he is talking about …
