Solid Gold Shoes

Oh boy. nurseassistjoy reminds me of this kid around my way. He’s a good kid, but he seems to think his merch is worth your weight in gold. Not the weight of his merch, but how many lbs (or kg for my euro brethren) you weigh. That’s right. You could trade him a chung king, and he’d give you a Rain On The Parade ep. And then he’d hit you up two weeks later saying you still owed him for that trade. He’d probably expect a Break Down The Walls on red vinyl. It happens.

That seems to be where grab some for $35 shipped in almost any size and color. But he claims these are more valuable. The reason? Classic, they are “DEADSTOCK” which means they are no longer made . worn only a couple of times like new. There are a lot things wrong with that statement. In what world (seriously, Mars or ex-Pluto maybe) does deadstock mean “no longer made?” That doesn’t even make sense. “Argh, I killed the stock!!!” For those who don’t know, deadstock means “brand new, unworn.” Not used or discontinued.

Fuck, I sort of want to sit this seller down and give them a two hour tutorial on researching their sale items. Also, please note, they don’t even display the insole. I’m almost certain these don’t even have the Bane song quote in them.

Ugh, frustrating.

BIN Biohazard tour shirt

The best I can do in Biohazard land today is this $60 tour shirt. It’s boring out there on the Biohazard grind, so if you are sitting on any leopard print, camo, mesh tank top Biohazard gear, drop us a line would ya?

Slapshot shirt

Ebay seller woodencoin has a lot of interesting things on auction right now. The most interesting thing to me is this Slapshot shirt. I have one of these in red with a date on the bottom, which I believe came from a certain show. My guess is that a taped off screen was used to make this gray one. I’m not sure on what kind of time frame this shirt falls in, but I like the gray/white combo.

Embarrassing SDRE Story

Here’s my embarrassing Sunny Day Real Estate story: When the Rising Tide came out, I ended up snagging it on green vinyl. I was pretty stoked. I walked into the Newbury Comics in Shrewsbury, and saw it sitting there on the shelf. I knicked a corner and saw green vinyl. You know I was stoked. SDRE on colored vinyl? Shut it down, solid gold material. I already had it on cd so didn’t even play it. Just got home and stared at it. I then did my fucking best to track down pressing info. Oddly, I couldn’t find anything on Sub Pop’s site. I looked everywhere. It’s like the album didn’t even exist to them. I couldn’t figure out. BUT I did notice that Sub Pop had a phone number for customer service. Probably just a line to some intern who sits in the back of a warehouse. I called up with my question ready. After a few pleasantries, we got down to business.

me – “So I was curious. How many SDRE Rising Tide LPs did you guys press on green vinyl?”

intern – “None”

me – “None? Wait, how’s that possible? I bought one TODAY!”

intern – “Sub Pop didn’t release that album …”

me – [ red in the face ] “Oh, … I see … Sorry… Have a nice day.” [ click ]

The album was released by Time Bomb Recordings AFTER a split with Sub Pop. Contract was up, and I guess they weren’t super happy with the live album work. Whoops. I bet Sub Pop wasn’t psyched on my phone call.

And if you are a big dog, you better step up and get this original artwork from Chris Thompson. He did some famous art for SDRE. You’ll notice this fits right in. Best part of the item description? Note that seller had them in storage during a move where they were wrapped in newspaper. Panels 2 and 3 have the heaviest markings as shown. The seller believes that this adds to the work. LOL
