Mental Crew!

However many years ago, Jaybil cooked up a(nother) classic design for Mental. He’s a dope dude with a good eye for design. We like having him around here. Keep your eyes peeled for some of his hard work in the near term.

He drew up some Nike Dunk Highs and added a simple, youth crew fonted phrase, “Mental Crew.” He then printed up some shirts. Green tees with yellow ink (brazil), blue tees with orange ink (knicks). And then a few in even more limited numbers. I’ve seen a white one with red ink, and there are a handful of tie dye camo tees with light blue ink.

But some of the most limited gear pressed were the white hoods with neon ink. Very few of these were made and even fewer made it out past the actual crew. Over the years some have been sold, but most remain close to Boston. But in the last few years, more and more have been surfacing. Something was afoot.

It appears someone, not sure who, but someone started booting them. The differences are subtle at first. The color green is off. That’s hard to see unless you’ve seen a REAL one though. But the big warning signs are some of the letters. Check the “C” and the “R” in crew.

You can see the “C” is fatter in the middle and overall rounder than the above tshirt drawing. Bummer. Those bootleggers didn’t work too hard on this one. I haven’t seen a legit hood on ebay in years.

I wanted to get to the bottom of this. Because I don’t like falsely calling things bootlegs. I fired off an email to JayBil and he quickly responded “boot.”

Turns out the seller is a friend of ttd so I didn’t hesitate to get an email out to him. He heard what I had to say and immediately emailed all bidders AND updated the listing. Honest sellers are awesome! Good dude, for sure. If you like Cold World and Wilkes-Barre bands, DEFINITELY check out his »

Frameable Straight Edge Art

Our good friend and site loyalist, Jay Jacoby is selling a few leftover prints. You may recognize his art from Alert tees or recent Up Front tees.

He screened up 30 on 11″x17″ paper. Each is signed and numbered.

Pretty damn cool if you ask me.

And for $10, even if you wife won’t let you hang it in the kitchen (cough MELISSA cough), you can’t pass up on a good deal like this.

There are less than 30 now, so don’t sleep.

Madball D.M.S. gear

Wow was there more D.M.S. branded gear than this? The only thing that I don’t love about this shirt is that Providence is not on the back of it. Maybe Club Babyhead was booked up wit h a reggae dance party or something. Bummer.

Some vintage loving from the UK

The bass player of the UK band Heresy has listed some items for sale out of his personal collection. The best thing for sale here is this Ramones shirt he purchased on their 1980 world tour in the UK. It seems sad that this thing could still be sitting there with NO BIDS while you dudes are bidding up jerseys.

Straight Ed loves Martha Splatterhead and so should you. This is a hand drawn shirt this dude made and wore the hell out of. We are spoiled now that any shirt you can dream up can be printed up on your computer and screened. Should we bring back the hand drawn shirt?

It’s also cool that he has a picture of himself wearing it live.

Of course he has 2 shirts from his band for sale. Why wouldn’t he? Any Heresy collectors on here?
