This Week’s Giveaway …

Is going to be a little different.

SPRINGFIELD – Firefighters have determined the cause of a fire that broke out in a duplex at 47-49 Willard Ave. early Saturday morning.

Fire Department spokesman Dennis G. Leger said the fire started in a power strip in the basement, causing the fire to break out at 49 Willard Ave.; the other side of the duplex was undamaged.

He said a 22-year-old man, Keith Freeman, smelled smoke and woke up his grandmother, Lula Griffin, 66, and got her outside. Leger said the first floor was gutted by fire and the second floor had heavy smoke damage. He estimated the damage at approximately $85,000. Griffin owns the duplex, Leger said.

Leger said 19 firefighters were on scene and were able to quickly put out the fire. The duplex had working smoke alarms, he said. The fire was reported at 4:37 a.m.

I don’t know if you know Keith, but I do. And he is seriously one of the chillest dudes out there. He’s posted comments here, and is always down for the core. You may recognize him from the band Alert. Great dude.

So, this week’s giveaway: you remember that bin of shirts? A healthy stack of shirts are headed his way (once I get an address for him). And you can help too. This is your chance to give something back to him.

Burn Hood

I had one of these in the late 90s. Most seemed to be sold at the Burn reunion in 97. I didn’t go to that reunion (I know Jaybil did though), but I did go to the Burn reunion a few years later at CBGBs. That show was ILL. Cro-Mags, American Nightmare, and some band called Frontline. Frontline was this weirdo punk rock band full of skinny guys. They played the longest set ever that day.

As for this hood, it’s a good look. I seem to remember the hoods were all sort of small. I’ve met JD, and I don’t recall his head being that big. I think it’s just small hood.

Like Mike, Not Will Ferrell

Sometimes sellers have a way of aggravating the shit out of me. Take this Mongoloids crewneck. Here’s what the seller has to say.

The Mongoloids crewneck inspired by John C Riley’s shirt in the movie Stepbrothers.

Step Brothers? Really? The movie from 2008? I’m not positive, but I’m pretty sure this sweatshirt came out BEFORE that movie was released.

Here’s the thing. This sweatshirt is obviously based on an OLD Nike Air Jordan design. One very similar to this. It was a Nike tshirt campaign that lasted 20+ years. In fact, I think they just released some ACG tshirts with this design THIS year.

As for this crewneck, it’s cool. I’m guessing the black writing on the shoe upper (where it would normally say “Air Jordan”) likely says “The Mongoloids.” Though, I am calling these out as bootleg jordans. Blue lace guards? No way. The lace guards are definitely black. And the tongue should have a swoosh and “Nike Air,” not the jumpman.
