The Metal Mash Up Shirt.

Another Metal Monday tee from janvanderdam, and this is much more along the lines of the metal merch I know and love than that batch of Maiden shirts…

Gotta love the Mash Up shirt, where all the bands on a tour share the tee. You still occasionally see it when a couple big names get together for a tour, but it’s a concept that was always best served it’s heyday as a pre-70’s/80’s metal concert staple. And it helps that the metal tours almost always had some epic name like MONSTERS OF METAL or CLASH OF THE TITANS.

I WENT TO CLASH OF THE TITANS ON MY 11TH BIRTHDAY!!! Alice In Chains, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax. It was at Lake Compound in Bristol, CT. I still remember the exact birthday outfit I was wearing. Suicidal Tendencies hat with “Suicidal” on the under bill. FLIPPED UP of course. An ST t-shirt with a Cholo skeleton in an electric chair. Black and white Skidz and black and white Patrick Ewing High Tops. Haha. #CoolStory

Was at that CT show as well. Highlights include every single metal head giving Alice In Chains the middle finger with both bands their entire set, the chain link fence between the seating area and general admission collapsing and everyone coming in, metal heads stomping the plastic fold down seats off and throwing them into the crowd, starting in like the 15th row and getting to the 2nd by climbing on top of the crowd. Sill have the t-shirt. Ears rang for a week straight.

Those are probably the two best stories ever told on this site. Thank you, gentlemen.

Yea. It was WILD from what I remember. I went with a neighborhood friend (aka The ONLY other white kid in my neighborhood. Haha.) And when my mom was driving us he asked me if I was gonna get in the mosh pit and of course me being the 11 year old bad ass that I was OF COURSE I said yes. He then asked me “How do you get out of it? Is there a ladder or a rope or something?” This dude thought a mosh pit was a literal PIT dug into the ground. Haha.

I saw that tour at Great Woords (the Tweeter Center/Comcast Center) in Mansfield, MA. I remember seeing the guys from Alice in Chains walking around the crowd after they played whiich was funny.

I went to an instore to meet Megadeth (with my mom) eariler in the day at a Strawberries in Providence. At the instore while getting autographs my mom asked Dave Ellifson if they knew where they were playing that night and he said “of course!” with a sarcastic tone. So my mom says “youre plahing at Great Woods” and he looks at Dave Mustaine all confused and says “Were playing in the woods!?”

Also I had a different shirt with all 3 bands on it that I loved and wore all the time, but one summer it was on the clothes line and someone stole it along with my Jim Rose Circus Sideshow shirt that I got at the first Lolapalooza.

Did any of you guys go to the “Operation Rock & Roll Tour”? I saw that one at Great Woods too. It was….

    Metal Church
    Dangerous Toys
    Motorhead
    Alice Cooper
    Judas Priest

I remember it, I didn’t go to the Operation Rock N’ Roll tour tho but I def went to the 1st Lolaoalooza with my “post-goth” aunt who went for Janes Addiction. I was stoked on Ministry and NIN at the time but reflecting back on that show in this day and age I only have 2 words to describe why that particular day was BEYOND awesome. And those 2 words are: BODY COUNT!

    That’s it!
