Unlike a lot of you, I never got to enjoy The Trocadero during it’s hey day. In fact, I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a gig there. It’s possible I have not. But if you ask old Philly heads (or the dudes in Reign Supreme), they will likely wax poetically about the venue called The Troc. It’s still there. You can still see shows there. As long as you are interested in seeing Michael Ian Black, Matt & Kim, Pauly Shore or Echo And The Bunnymen (actually, that one might not be too bad). You aren’t likely to see any bouncers wearing this particular tanktop jnientertainment is selling. This was from the mid 90s when the venue wasn’t quite as classy as it is now. Of course, hardcore gigs still roll through this venue, but it’s usually on a bigger scale. The 10 For 10 tour was at the Troc. H2O played one of the anniversary shows there, … you see how it goes.
If you have a good Troc memory, leave a comment below. I’m interested in hearing it.
In 99, Earth Crisis played there and some Atlantic City Skins attended from NJ. During ExC there was a scuffle because a skin’s girl got pushed and the skin tried to get tough. The Stackhouse Crew shut them down quick and a riot broke out. One of the bouncers was Matt Summers and the other was a member of a black motorcycle club called Wheels of Soul with a huge Public Enemy logo tatt’d on his chest. Needless to say the security did not help the skins and the melee erupted out to the street and as the skin and his girl tried to get in a cab, a 22 was pulled out and later used on him. There was probably about 50 people total beating the shit out of the skins as as they tried to run. A HC girl grabbed a broken umbrella from the gutter and beat the skin’s girl as the cab was trying to drive away.
Everyone went back in the Troc, the skins disappeared and Karl said, “well that was fun” and they continued to play.
Awesome show.
I dunno if that was in 99. I think it was around 97, as I think it happened when I was still living in Philly.
Also, pretty much same exact thing happened at a Sick Of It All show there sometime between 95-97.
Big Jay, awesome dude/bouncer. Took no shit, but looked out for the locals.
Tre, didnt Nazis do a drive-by at some ExC show in the 90’s?
