WarZone! Oi!

We segue back from our UK tour with this original WarZone shirt from seller porkchoplamf, which is always cool, even when it’s a mid-90s large…

You could probably find a boot with the old style War Zone iron cross that fits you way better than this (not that we recommend such a thing), but it wouldn’t have the tour dates and the Oi! on the back. And speaking of those tour dates…

01 March New Haven CT Tune Inn.

I know some of our regular CT contributors/commenters were there. Show reviews please. I didn’t see WarZone til ’95 so I got nuthin’, but Jay Bil, Ivan, Big E… I’m looking at y’all. Memories of any of the other shows are obviously equally welcome, as are memories of ANY WarZone shows, for that matter.

I remember seeing Warzone at the Ritz right after ‘Open Your Eyes’ came out. This was the ‘new’ ritz, not the one on 14th street. Anyways, there was a smoke machine and a couple of skinhead girls came up to me and my friend; we were 15 at the time, wanted to take us in the bathroom and bang us; I was seriously too scared, I mean how many 15 year olds are up for having sex with girls that had a chelsea haircut. When we said no, they tried to pressure us into doing acid with them. Ah, da Warzone women!

Crossthread opened for them at the Bristol Skate park and The El N Gee. We really didn’t fit the bill, but I would’ve been at the shows regardless.

I saw Warzone twice in the mid-nineties, once at Wetlands in NYC and the other time at Pearl Street in Northampton. The show at Wetlands was nuts, wall to wall sing-a-long. They played with Yuppicide and I can’t remember who opened for whom. Ray spent most of the show singing from the floor instead of the stage and there was a moving pile on in the pit wherever he went. The show was also full of NYHC all-stars diving all over the place, which always made for a good time.
As for Pearl Street, it was a Sunday afternoon and there was maybe 30 people there. Again, Ray sang from the dance floor and even though the crowd was tiny, he gave it every bit of emotion as he did the Wetlands show.
I took for granted how often they played, now I wish I saw them more.

Saw this band MANY times with MANY random members in MANY different settings and they were always awesome no matter what. I’d always talk to Ray Beez. That fool was hella cool. Can’t remember if I specially at that Tune In show but I mos def saw them there before. CTxHC SWAG!
