colinmurphy00 (no relation) has a good one up. A pretty fresh looking Swatch X-Rated from way back. 1987 to be specific. Swatch didn’t release these specifically with the youth crew in mind, but it worked. Youth Of Today, Bold, … the whole crew was sporting these. Smart look!
What out for this crack near the pin. This could end up screwing you. Well, not completely screwing you. Lots of people have attempted to fix broken cases by super gluing the strap in place. That usually works. Actually, it might not be a bad idea to coat this crack somehow before giving it any heavy wear. The BIN on this watch seems high because of the crack. We shall see.
The x-rated above does NOT come with the original band. Do not, and I repeat, do NOT get the pulsometer (ga106) band and think it will work. It’s very much a light grey and looks goofy. Save your money. You can trust me on this one, as I tried it. Found a cheap pulsometer (like $15 shipped), and tried a band swap. It wasn’t good. You’re better off hitting up squiggly.com where they have the band IN STOCK now.
But maybe you aren’t down with the edge. That’s ok. I’m not going to judge you. Perhaps you’d like this one more. The Marmorata (GB119), also from 1987. Am I the only one, or does this resemble a certain Joy Division cover? Peter Saville should get a cut of these sales …
What about the text book that Saville lifted the image from?
i gave my X Swatch away to Max ‘the pilgrim’ Milgrim after he gave me a Cro-Mags ‘AOQ’ pin. the jacket the pin was on was later stolen and Max’s watch ended getting busted at a show… all within a few weeks after our gift giving :)
I also own a Marmorata. it was my younger brother’s.
These is good news for the lovers of the original 1987 Swatch X-Rated. While these were designed to last at least ten years they clearly outperform that standard. sadly these days they are all failing, even brand new ones. The driving chip suffers from bitrot which results in a rocking second hand. Also the strap attachments points break off from age and usage. But here comes the good part: Never throw it away! Give your X-Rated a new life in its original splendour. The company Swatch Repair is fully devoted to fixing your watch and they repair about one X-Rated a week at this moment. It receives a new case, movement and crystal so will be virtually new and ready for many many years of service. Don’t believe me, just listen to the ones that went there before you.
if anyone knows where i can get an ORIGINAL SWATCH x rated band and not a knock off one let me know.
